Indian equity indices extended their winning streak to a seventh consecutive session on November 6, shrugging off a global market rout after the Nasdaq Composite recorded its steepest single-day decline in 19 months amid concerns over tighter AI regulations.

Tracking weak global cues, domestic benchmarks opened lower and slipped to an intraday low of 24,388.05. However, they staged a sharp recovery in early trade, with buying momentum gathering pace as the session progressed. The Nifty crossed the 24,900 mark for the first time since February 27, 2026.

Falling crude oil prices, sustained foreign fund inflows, encouraging corporate earnings and a strengthening rupee supported domestic market sentiment.

At close, the Sensex was up 1,718.01 points or 2.17 percent at 81,028.02, and the Nifty was up 493.75 points or 2.01 percent at 25,030.35.

The sharp buying lifted investors' wealth by nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies rising to Rs 503.10 lakh crore from Rs 501.61 lakh crore in the previous session.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain open for a special Muhurat trading session on Sunday, November 8, 2026, to mark Diwali Laxmi Pujan.

For the week, the Sensex and Nifty rallied around 8 percent each, marking their biggest weekly gains in six years. However, for Samvat 2082, the Nifty declined 2.6 percent, while the Sensex shed 3.5 percent.

The broader markets underperformed the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap index ending marginally lower and the Smallcap index declining 0.8 percent, snapping its four-session winning streak.

Among Nifty 50 stocks, ICICI Bank, M&M, HDFC Bank, Titan Company and Axis Bank were the top gainers, while Eicher Motors, Power Grid Corporation, Bharat Electronics, Adani Enterprises and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles were among the biggest losers.
