Democrats wrest control of the US Congress from Republicans by winning majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate in a stunning rebuke to US President Donald Trump.
Democrats score wins in Republican strongholds such as Texas and Kansas while progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed wins the Michigan seat, becoming America’s first Muslim senator.
Trump says he accepts the results, acknowledging his war on Iran was partly to blame for the Republican defeat.
The Democrats now control 54 senate seats, and leading on 1. They have won 228 House seats and ahead on 35 others. All 435 House seats were up for grabs while 35 Senate’s 100 seats were up for election. Voters in 36 states also elected governors.
