Nifty slips below 24500;Mid&Smallcaps outperform

Indian equity indices ended lower on Tuesday, pressured by sharp selling in financial stocks and elevated crude oil prices amid geopolitical uncertainties.

After a muted start, the market remained under pressure through most of the session, with the Nifty hitting an intraday low of 24,429.25. However, buying at lower levels helped erase some of the losses, though the indices closed near the day's lows.

At close, the Sensex was down 388.19 points or 0.49 percent at 78,154.25, and the Nifty was down 112.10 points or 0.46 percent at 24,471.70.

The broader indices outperformed the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap index ending flat, while the Nifty Midcap index ending flat, while the Nifty Smallcap index rose 0.2%.

Biggest Nifty losers were Tata Consumer, Max Healthcare, UltraTech Cement, Apollo Hospitals, Nestle, while gainers included Dr Reddy's Labs, Eternal, TCS, Titan Company, Infosys.

The sectoral indices were mixed, with Nifty Pharma rising 1% and Nifty IT gaining 0.6%, while Nifty Realty, FMCG and Metal declined 1% each, Nifty Infra slipped 0.8%, Nifty Private Bank declined 0.6%, Nifty Auto fell 0.5%, and Nifty Bank shed 0.4%.

More than 180 stocks touched 52-week high including Gland Pharma, Bosch, Aditya Infotech, Anthem Bioscience, Redington, Bajaj Auto, Titan Company, Syrma SGS, Paytm, Aether Industries, Belrise Industries, Tata Tech, among others. 

The Indian rupee ended at the day’s low of ?95.44 per dollar on Tuesday, down 14 paise from the previous close of ?95.29.

Among individual stocks, Gland Pharma surged 10% after Q1 profit jumped 47%, while Kolte-Patil Developers rallied 12% after turning profitable in Q1. Matrimony.com gained 10% as Q1 profit doubled, while Finolex Cables jumped 14% after profit rose 53%.

Lumax Auto Technologies gained 18% after Q1 profit more than doubled, while Dilip Buildcon plunged 5% on weak Q1 earnings. . CMS Info Systems slipped 4% after an 11% decline in profit, while KEC International fell 5% after Q1 profit declined 41.7%.

L&T Technology Services rose 2 % after launching its AgenticIQ platform, while Zen Technologies gained 5% after securing a Rs 295-crore order from the Ministry of Defence. Ather Energy rose 4% after the government extended benefits of the e-2W subsidy.
