Ola Electric Mobility shares jumped 8 percent in afternoon trade on August 31, extending their gains from the previous session, as sentiment around the electric two-wheeler maker remained buoyant following the launch of its new mass-market S1Z scooter range.

The stock climbed to Rs 42.1, emerging as the top midcap gainer for the day. With Monday's surge, Ola Electric shares have gained around 11.3 percent so far in 2026, compared with a 7.5 percent decline in the Nifty 50. The company's market capitalisation rose above Rs 19,300 crore.

The new S1Z is available in 3.1 kWh and 5.1 kWh variants, priced at an introductory Rs 79,999 and Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. The two variants offer claimed IDC ranges of up to 179 km and 301 km. The 3.1 kWh version is scheduled to begin deliveries in December 2026, while deliveries of the 5.1 kWh variant are slated to start in March 2027.

A key feature of the launch is Ola Electric's 46-series LFP Bharat Cell platform, developed at its Battery Innovation Centre and manufactured at the company's Gigafactory. The S1Z marks the first time Ola is bringing the technology to its mass-market scooter range.

The company said developing and manufacturing the battery technology in-house has helped lower battery costs, which constitute the single largest cost component of an electric vehicle. Ola is betting that greater vertical integration will allow it to offer newer battery technology at more accessible price points.

The S1Z forms part of Ola Electric's broader push to develop critical EV components internally. Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal said the company has built the cell, motor, vehicle, software and other key components in-house.

The 301-km claimed range on the higher-capacity S1Z also represents a significant increase over the 146-km range offered by the earlier S1 Z dual-battery setup. However, the new range starts at Rs 79,999, compared with a starting price of Rs 64,999 for the legacy S1 Z+.

The launch comes as Ola Electric attempts to rebuild its presence in India's electric two-wheeler market. The company said its EV market share improved to 8.4 percent in the first quarter of FY27 from 5.1 percent in the preceding quarter.

he highest since October 2020, mainly driven by a boost in its exports. Its overall automobile despatches also hit a record high in August as its exports strongly exceeded performance in the domestic markets on a year-on-year basis, according to data available with Informist.
