The benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty pared early gains on Tuesday as investors booked profits at higher levels amid weak global cues and a soft rupee.

The Sensex settled at 75,200.85, down 114.19 points or 0.15 percent, while the Nifty stood at 23,618, down 31.95 point or 0.14 percent.

In early trade, the Sensex was up 431.23 points, or 0.57 percent at 75,746.27, while the Nifty advanced to 23,782.30, gaining 132.35 points or 0.55 percent.
