HDFC Bank profit up 9%

Private lender HDFC Bank on April 18 reported 9% rise in standalone net profit at Rs 19,221 crore for the quarter ended March 31 ,2026, as compared to Rs 17,616 crore in the year-ago period.

The bank declared a final dividend of Rs 13 per share for FY26 and said the record date for payment of the dividend would be June 19, 2026. In addition, the board of directors approved a special interim dividend of Rs 2.5 per share.

"The Bank paid a special interim dividend of Rs 2.5 per equity share of Re 1 each (adjusted for bonus) on August 11, 2025. The Board of Directors have now recommended a final dividend of Rs 13 per equity share of Rs 1 for the year ended March 31, 2026," the bank said.

The Bank's net revenue grew by 5% to Rs 46,280 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 from Rs 44,090 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025. Provisions and contingencies for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 were Rs 2,610 crore.

Net interest income for the quarter ended March 31 grew by 3.2% to Rs 33,080 crore from Rs 32,070 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025. Net interest margin (NIM) was at 3.38% on total assets, and 3.53% based on interest-earning assets, the bank said in a stock exchange filing.

The lender's asset quality improved in Q4FY26.

"Gross non-performing assets were at 1.15% of gross advances as on March 31, 2026, as against 1.24% as on December 31, 2025 (0.97% excluding NPAs in the agricultural segment), and 1.33% as on March 31, 2025 (1.13% excluding NPAs in the agricultural segment). Net non-performing assets were at 0.38% of net advances as on March 31, 2026," the bank said.

Provisions and contingencies for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 were Rs 2,610 crore. The total credit cost ratio was at 0.35% for the quarter ended March 31, 2026.

"The Bank's total Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) as per Basel III guidelines was at 19.7% as on March 31, 2026 (19.6% as on March 31, 2025) as against a regulatory requirement of 11.9%. Tier 1 CAR was at 17.7% and Common Equity Tier 1 Capital ratio was at 17.3% as of March 31, 2026," said the lender.

"The Bank's average deposits were Rs 28.5 lakh crore for the March 2026 quarter, a growth of 12.8% over Rs 25.2 lakh  crore for the March 2025 quarter, and 3.6% over Rs 27.5 lakh crore for the December 2025 quarter. The Bank's average CASA deposits were Rs 9.18 lakh crore for the March 2026 quarter, a growth of 10.8% over Rs 8.28 lakh crore for the March 2025 quarter, and 2.2% over Rs 8.98 lakh crore for the December 2025 quarter," the private lender added.
