U.S. stock futures edged lower Tuesday, retreating from record levels as investors assessed headlines around trade and fiscal policy and prepared for the release of key labor market data later this week.

At 06:00 ET (10:00 GMT), Dow Jones Futures slipped 28 points, or 0.1%, S&P 500 Futures fell 12 points, or 0.2%, and Nasdaq 100 Futures dropped 52 points, or 0.2%.

The main averages advanced on Monday, with the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ Composite gaining 0.5%, both to a fresh record peak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.6%.

Sentiment has been boosted by signs of easing trade tensions as well as expectations of Fed rate cuts in the near future.
